Tekken Revolution Review

It's Free and Feels Like Old-school Tekken With Some Elements From TT2T Plus New Unique Features

Sorry for forgetting to review this game, and I know that most of you already played the game. I will be reviewing this partly based on the first version of the game. Anyways If you're into fighting games, be sure to download this game. Tekken Revolution is a Free-to-Play game exclusive on PSN and technically the latest Tekken game. That said, being a F2P game, it sacrifices some features seen on a full game and the it requires online connection to play.

GAMEPLAY
Tekken Revolution borrows some elements from Tekken Tag 2 Tournament like the stages with breakable walls and floors for new areas, some characters and their moves. It doesn't have a story mode, tag system, and "bounce" mechanic (enemy character bounces on the floor for more "pick up then juggle some more" combos). Having no bounce mechanic makes the game feel like Tekken 3 or 4. It also have few but very popular characters available from the start. If you want to use a different character, Alisa for example, you need to unlock her either by buying her in the PlayStation Store or by earning in-game points. So in short, it's like a Tekken lite.

Tekken Revolution have a Coin System. You know arcade, right? Well that's how it plays, you need coins to play some features in TR. In Arcade Mode you need Arcade Coins, and if you want to play Online VS like Player and Ranked Matches you need Battle Coins. The Premium Coins and the Premium Tickets can be used in both Arcade Mode and Online VS. The Arcade and Battle coins recharges in one hour and the maximum amount you can have is 2 and 5 respectively while the Premium Coins can be purchased in the PlayStation Store and Premium Tickets are rewarded in-game.

There are new features in TR. The Effect system, noticeable by the awesome effects from some moves that can make the character invincible for a millisecond (pink default effect) or the Critical Arts (blue default effect). You can buy a character specific flashy effects in the PlayStation store.

Leveling and Character Enhancement. This is where you allocate skill points to your favorite character(s) to enhance their three traits: Power, Endurance and Vigor. This may cause some imbalances when playing in online matches, luckily it can be turned off. When you level up, all characters will have skill points

Fight Money and Gift points. Use Fight Money to pay for the skill points you put on your character(s). Gift points are used for unlocking characters, you don't need to spend them to unlock a character. Characters are unlocked randomly but you can buy them in the PlayStation store. The game have scheduled events where more Experience, Fight money and/or Gift points can be earned.

GRAPHICS
Like I said, TR borrows from TT2T. The difference is the different lighting effects and music on all its good looking stages and the character models look much better (even less polygon count, beautiful faces and smooth looking hairs) than TT2T. The characters don't get wet and dirty though, they always look squeaky clean. The game runs on smooth 60 frames per second with very rare frame rate drops.

POST UPDATE
New features are added to the game, like the Reset Drinks if you want to redo the skill point allocation to your character. More characters added to be unlocked. Warm-up Space, just plain practice mode, you don't have to spend coins to use this feature. Mokujin rush, an event where you fight lots of Mokujins, Tetsujins or even the new Kinjin for more Fight Money, Experience and Gift Points. Turbo mode, another event where everything is sped up, kinda like Street Fighter 2 Turbo. Character costumes are added, you must buy them though. Blood Seals, you need these to unlock a new and exclusive character and its costumes in Tekken Revolution. Blood Seals can be earned if you played and finished the Arcade Mode or by playing Online and Ranked Matches.

CLOSING REMARKS
Tekken Revolution is a good game. Sure it doesn't offer more features and gameplay mechanics, but this game plays like an arcade cabinet version of Tekken. This game will introduce new gamers to the Tekken franchise and fighting genre. So yeah, be sure to download this free game if you're a new player or a fighting game nut and a Tekken fan at that. By the way, it also have Trophies, but no Platinum trophy.
