Nintendo recently announced the new entry-level version of the 3DS, the Nintendo 2DS. This is to make Nintendo's latest handheld device to be accessible to all. Like the name implies. This is Nintendo 3DS without the 3D top screen. The design of the device is now like a slate rather than clamshell. It's obvious that you can't use the Circle Pad Pro here.
The 2DS still got all the same functions as the original. There is no physical WiFi on/off switch, you can turn the WiFi off via software configuration. A new Sleep switch is added to replace the Sleep function when closing the clamshell-type 3DS. The two screens is now on a single screen separated by the plastic shell cover of the device. There is only one speaker present, meaning that it's in mono sound, but it's stereo if you use headphones. Two cameras are also present, it can still take 3D photos but can only be viewed in 2D (full 3D when transferred to 3DS), you can also play AR games. The 2DS is compatible with all DS and 3DS games.
Nintendo 2DS costs $129.99 and will released the same day as Pokemon X and Y, October 12, 2013. It comes with 4GB SD card and standard Red and Blue 2DS color variations. No additional color options has been announced.
So what do you guys think? I think it's more appropriate to call it "Nintendo DS 2" without that 3D feature and all. Sound in the comments below.
