PS4 (codenamed: Orbis) was announced February 20 during Sony's event. Lot of gameplay demoes are shown but the actual console is a no-show, only the controller, DualShock 4, is shown to the audience.
Here's what we know so far about this new console:
- PS4 is a powerful graphics console with top spec PC hardware
- Lot's of 3rd party support... as usual
- The new controller, while looks similar to the DualShock 3 have a touch pad similar to the PSVita and (maybe) will act as a Playstation Move
- PS4's UI looks like the new version of the Playstation Store and almost look similar to the Windows 8 Modern UI
- PS3 games retail or digital is not backwards compatible to the PS4... bummer
- PS4 will only support 4k resolution for photos and videos, not for games
- Playstation Move controller is compatible, but the DualShock 3 controller isn't
- Social integration
- Facebook-ish player profile
- Play and chat at the same time
- PS4 can save/stream gameplay videos to the internet
- The console learns your gaming likes like genres and will automatically download demos in the background
- Remote Play with PS4 and Vita is functional day one
